    Stomping Ground, a restaurant based in Del Ray, Alexandria, is a local haunt and a first class restaurant. Opened originally as a coffee and biscuit shop, the space is now a full-fledged restaurant for special events and tastings from Wednesday through Sunday nights. Given the growth of the restaurant as well as a variety of other initiatives in the "hopper," owner and executive chef Nicole Jones is seeking a part-time assistant (up to 20 hours/week) to help with everything from printing menus to handling building permits and all the pieces in-between. If you are a well-organized, fun, all-around pleasant person with mad follow-through and attention to detail, we want to talk with you.  

    Responsibilities

    This is a fun job working for an intensively humble and creative person.  Not only will you get sh** done, you will be helping a small perfection-oriented busines with great potential grow into a multi-faceted food enterprise.  On a daily basis, some of the tasks on your plate will include inventory control, publishing, events/promotions, human resources, and general administration.  Specifically, your menu of responsibilities could include:

    Inventory Control

    • Ongoing food cost management and analysis
    • Recipe standardization and cookbook development
    • Menu analysis and planning
    • data entry and costing (turning handwritten recipes into word documents)

    Desktop publishing

    • Menus, wine, and cocktail lists
    • Tabletop marketing, fliers
    • Newsletters
    • Employee Manuals, Recipe Books

    Events and promotions

    • Planning and Production
    • Marketing

    Marketing

    • Social media management
    • Customer database creation and management
    • Relationship building, customer loyalty
    • Email and newsletter campaigns

    Writing 

    • Blogging and online content
    • Newsletters
    •  Menu and advertising copy writing
    • Employee manuals

    Qualifications

    This is not a 9-5 job.  It's a part-time, outcome-focused position helping an entrerpreneurial leader manage the thousands of little pieces that make a restaurant successful.  We are looking for someone who is:

    • Exceptionally well-organized with past supervisors who are willing to testify to that fact.
    • Well rounded in a variety of administrative and creative areas -- having managed any kind of food-service business is helpful.
    • Extraordinary willingness to do menial business and personal tasks cheerfully.  
    • Able to manage with grace and a sense of humor under pressure -- although you will not manage anyone, your success is largely achieved through others.  

     

    We could add a whole lot of other criteria, but frankly, this job is largely about attitude and fit.  All candidates who pass the resume and phone screening will meet in person with the chef and be given some basic tests on math, organization, and the ability to follow instructions.  References will be requested and checked.  Now, let's get on with it . . . join us.  We're counting on having fun, are you?
